"Upwards of 10,000 spectators visited the old-world village of Lacock on Saturday.......They were treated to a unique spectacle, boldy conceived, and carried out on a scale, and with a strict attention to the minutest detail, that formed a real tribute to the promoters.....Nuns and novices were seen sewing, spinning, embroidering, repairing altar hangings and vestments.....the courtyard and outer yard were arranged as a 13th century village on a market day, and the villagers were seen going about their everyday tasks."
