Local History Workshops

Saturday 6th September 2025
Location: Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre

Join us for a wonderful opportunity to view some fascinating items from our archive collection.

It is a chance to handle historical items you never even know existed!

You will learn more about what the items mean and where they came from, and why they have been saved for posterity.

In this welcoming and informal session you will be able to listen, chat and learn more about Wiltshire’s history, people and places.

First and third Wednesday of the month

Do you love reading and history?

Then the Memory Box Reading group might just suit you down to the ground!

In-person sessions run on the first and third Wednesday of every month, 2-3.30pm. Entry is free, and we have a free car park right outside the building; we are also situated close to the railway station. If you are unable to join us in person, there is also the option of joining online via Teams, please enquire for further details.

The Memory Box sessions are a unique opportunity for anyone who is at a loose end to come along and listen to book extracts from our Local Studies Library on a wide range of topics, take a look at a range of documents from our Archive collection and photographs from our Local Studies Collection, not to mention tea/coffee, biscuits and chatting as we go!

We need your help to uncover the stories that matter.

Here at the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre our mission is to collect, preserve, promote and value the culture and heritage of the county.

We want to ensure that every voice is represented within our collections. In this way we can share what is it like to live and work in Wiltshire with those who come after us. We want to make our collections more inclusive, for and about every community, and in particular communities which have been under-represented or marginalised throughout history.

To do this, we need your help. If you have lived experience in this area, we would like to invite you to become a valued member of our Wiltshire Inclusion Panel.
