WSHC Education Service
The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre is home to archives and local studies collections that span more than 800 years of the county’s history. The education service provides access to these amazing collections through facilitated sessions at the History Centre or in school and bespoke resource packs. As well as covering key History curriculum topics from KS1 to KS5 our collections offer inspirational resources for the visual and performing arts, humanities, STEM subjects and English.
Please note that the Education pages are currently under construction. If you are looking for resource packs or workshops please contact ruth.butler@wiltshire.gov.uk
The service offers:
- Research visits to the History Centre.
- An outreach service providing school-based workshops tailored to student and curriculum needs.
- Bespoke resource packs.
- Free teacher development sessions to help schools make the most of the History Centre.
There are a number of free online classroom resources from projects worked on by the History Centre in partnership with Wiltshire & Swindon schools and community groups. The history of Swindon’s Railway Village includes classroom resources as well as teachers’ notes and lesson ideas. There are also pages on Wiltshire Black history and the Arctic Convoys of the Second World War. For teachers & curriculum leaders there is a schools’ toolkit to support the development of an LGBT-inclusive curriculum. Work is also underway on resources for Home Educating families.
