The History Centre in Chippenham is home to the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives and the Wiltshire Local Studies Library. Using these extensive collections the heritage education service provides a wide range of workshops and resources giving students the opportunity to carry out their own historical investigations. Visits to the History Centre provide students with the chance to work from original documents and visit behind the scenes at the Archive. All sessions at WSHC and in school are hands on and interactive. Workshops are suitable for students from KS2 to Further and Higher Education.

Our service includes:

  • Qualified history teacher delivering session.
  • Outreach service to your school.
  • Bespoke resource packs.
  • Research visits for GCSE and A level students.
  • Well equipped education room.

The History Centre’s archive and local studies collections are held on around 11 miles of shelving. We hold approximately 55, 000 photographs and prints as well as the county’s local studies library collection. We can provide bespoke local studies resource packs for anywhere in the county and we offer an outreach service across Wiltshire and Swindon at a universal travel cost.
